Final Entry

Final Words During this semester I have learned how to make multiple essays, by using different outline methods and multiple approaches in the development of the ideas. I'm certain that I still have a lot to learn and a lot to practice when it comes to the initial stages of a writing process, however I'm now in the right path, with methods like the Venn Diagram, the clustering method, etc. When it comes to the actual composition, methods like subject by subject or Essays using cause and effect methods are for far my favorites. The constant feedback that I received from my professor has been constructive and clear. I have learned to organize my ideas' through a pre-writing process followed by a drafting process that allows me to correct or add more to my main ideas.

Effects Essay

Evaluation week II: During this week's of evaluation, we went from an essay that would focus on causes to one that focuses on effects. The topic of this week was sports from a young age, so I decided to write my essay focusing on the positive effects of sports in children. Sports help children to grow as the best version of themselves         It is important for parents to have their children involved in activities that would help them in a positive way. Nowadays, children are so caught up with technology that playing outside with friends is not appealing anymore, they can even struggle with social interactions because the only friends they have are the ones they meet in online games. In addition to this, children can also be negatively impacted by a sedentary life giving them permanent health problems. It has been advised by multiple experts that it is vital for a kid to grow within an environment that allows him or her to experience all sorts of things, espec...

CAUSE ESSAY

Imagen
This week we have focused on the Cause essay with a different type of pre-writing technique. This time we worked with the clustering technique, since the main purpose is for us to expose the causes of our topic, we used a diagram to list the causes. After we got a hand of this, we worked with the topic of ASMR, and it's comforting sensations.   Why is ASMR such a Hit? Autonomous sensory meridian response, also known as ASMR, has become popular over the years on Youtube, to the point that now it has its own growing community and is constantly evolving. And the billion dollar question is, why did it get this big?. For starters, the experience begins on a series of videos where there’s a person or multiple people performing the so called “triggers” that come in many forms, from tapping, scratching or squishing sounds to whispers, giving the listener multiple experiences, that go from tingly sensations to a feeling of deep relaxation.   The magic occurs in the head of ...

Cause & effect essays

Imagen
This week we have learned about cause and effect essays, they´re the opposite of each other because you only focus on one of them. When you use the cause method, you pick a topic and throughout the text you focus on explaining what causes the phenomenom of your topic. When you use the effect method you texts focus is to describe the effects or impact of the phenomenom in your main topic. This week as an activity we made an essay for ech method: Why do young couples divorce?  Life is hard and leaving with another person under the same roof can sometimes generate conflicts, older couples have problems as many problems as younger ones, but not everyone can deal with them the same way that others do.Nowadays it’s said that young people lack the commitment to remain in a stable relationship such as marriage. That might be true but is not the only reason why young couples get divorce every year, from lack of communication, domestic abuse to  even financial struggle can be the...

Fast Food vs Healthy food

Imagen
This week it's the midterm, and we had to do a comparison between fast food and healthy food. By using a Venn diagram and a subject by subject method, this is the result: Where do you draw the line between convenient and healthy?   Most busy and hungry people don’t actually pay attention to what they eat as long as they fill their stomachs. However, not minding what they put into their bodies can later represent a high risk to their health and well being. The diet a person has can either lead to life full of long healthy years or a path of self destruction and poor health. Everyone is responsible for their own choices, and it’s never too late to make a change for the sake of your body. It appears that society has chosen a lifestyle full of shortcuts and things that are faster and easier, when you carry a lifestyle where you don’t have enough time to do anything, you tend to go for the easier option when it comes to food. Fast food may seem convenient because you can find it ...

Evaluation II

Imagen
Following the same dynamic for this week, we followed with an essay using the method of composition point by point. In addition, to this for this task instead of using a chart for my pre-writing process, I used the Venn diagram technique. I was running out of interesting topics and after spending a few hours looking for a good one, I chose the following: Can cultural appropriation be masked as cultural appreciation?   There’s a lot of controversy regarding the concepts of cultural appropriation and cultural appreciation, people have divided opinions and perspectives when it comes to these two. Social media and several media platforms can’t either become the fuel that will light up the situation even more or can be used as beacons for the education of many. Some people are not able to understand where appreciating another culture can become an attempt of appropriation and misrepresentation of another culture that is not their own. That’s why this text will clarify this topic ...

Evaluation I

Imagen
The week of the evaluation #1, we kept working with charts and Venn diagrams. For this task I used a chart as part of my pre-writing process. Then I proceeded to do the outline under the method of subject by subject as you can see in the following Essay: What’s your cup of tea in the workout clock?  Everyone has their own preferences when it comes to working out, there’s always divided opinions when people question the best time for your workout routine. Which time has the best health benefits?, Which one works for me?. There are multiple studies that speak of the multiple benefits of working out early in the morning, and others that talked about the late night workout. However, each time also has its own challenges, at the end nothing is written in stone, as long as you do it right, a proper workout routine should help its user to achieve his or her goals.  Everyone has different metabolisms and what works for you might not work for your neighbor.  For starters, s...

Subject-by-subject vs Point-by-point

Imagen
Subject-by-subject vs Point-by-point This week we learned about other methods of writing. With both methods, we take two ideas and where we compare or describe them like last weeks methods, but the development of the topics throughout the text is slightly different. With a subject-by-subject structure we take topic A and topic B, we produce our introduction and the first pargraph is in charge of focusing on topic A, once the points are made we moved on to the next paragraph that will focus only in topic B, until we get to the conlusion. On Point-by-point, we take topic A and topic B, we produce the introduction, then the first pargraph will have topic A and B together making a point but it will focus in idea 1, after we finish that point we move on to the next paragraph and with topic A and B to make another point or more under idea 2. It might feel confusing at first but practice makes perfect, and that's how I wrote this two texts: Does freedom come with a price tag? ...

Compare & Contrast II

Imagen
This week we have followed the topic of compare and contrast in combination with other pre-writing techniques like the Venn diagram and the chart method. Where the only purpose is to compare 2 or more topics, see the things that those topics have in common and what are the differences between them. This week I chose a topic related to health and lifestyle, and I focused on the few similarities and the huge differences between vegans, vegetarians and other 2 categories that don't fit in any of them. Are Vegetarians and Vegans the same thing?  In order to be healthy and environmentally conscious you don’t have to avoid all animal products, however, there’s other people out there that differ with this argument. Some have chosen a different lifestyle for the sake of their own bodies and the planet. If you are one of those people that want to do the same, I’ll break down to you the most common misunderstandings. The differences between a vegetarian, vegans and some others that do...

Compare & Contrast Essays

Imagen
With a compare-contrast composition, you use 2 different techniques with them. With the method of comparison you take 2 points and describe the similarities between these 2 arguments, leaving behind the obvious but providing a more analyzed insight for it. In the method of Contrast, you take 2 arguments or topics that might be related and look for the differences. As instructed for this week, I based my composition on whether is it a myth what people believe about eating breakfast being the most important meal of the day or there are scientific facts behind it. I took the fact that some people believe that breakfast is good for your health or their popular opinion about the importance of breakfast in contrast to the recent studies confirming that whether you eat your breakfast or not, it doesn't have major impact on your health. What it matters at the end is the combination of your lifestyle choices and the diet you carry on. Is breakfast a choice or a must-do for your health...
