Fast Food vs Healthy food
This week it's the midterm, and we had to do a comparison between fast food and healthy food. By using a Venn diagram and a subject by subject method, this is the result:
Where do you draw the line between convenient and healthy?
Most busy and hungry people don’t actually pay attention to what they eat as long as they fill their stomachs. However, not minding what they put into their bodies can later represent a high risk to their health and well being. The diet a person has can either lead to life full of long healthy years or a path of self destruction and poor health. Everyone is responsible for their own choices, and it’s never too late to make a change for the sake of your body.
It appears that society has chosen a lifestyle full of shortcuts and things that are faster and easier, when you carry a lifestyle where you don’t have enough time to do anything, you tend to go for the easier option when it comes to food. Fast food may seem convenient because you can find it almost anywhere at any time, especially when you don’t make time to prepare your own meals. However, this food choice comes with consequences, too much of this increases the cholesterol in your blood, it makes your body gain weight at a fast rate and increases the risk of early heart problems and type 2 diabetes.
If you manage your time wisely you can turn this around before facing serious health problems. Home cooking has more benefits than what you imagine, when you’re the one making the meals at home, you can eat fresh, it’s healthier, you’re in total control of the calorie intake, the amount of salts, oil, fat and the type of ingredients used in those dishes. The only disadvantage is that you do need to be consistent during the process because it is time consuming since you need to buy the ingredients, prepare the meal and fit all this on your everyday schedule.
There’s nothing wrong with enjoying food at its best, fried, salty, sweet, spicy. It doesn't have much of a negative impact as long as we learn where to draw healthy boundaries. That’s exactly the reason why every medical expert always advises to mind what you eat and try to eat as healthy as possible. It’s more beneficial for your body to eat more home cooked meals on your everyday menu, rather than sticking to a diet full of fast food with the excuse of lack of available time for much healthier options.
