Subject-by-subject vs Point-by-point
Subject-by-subject vs Point-by-point
This week we learned about other methods of writing. With both methods, we take two ideas and where we compare or describe them like last weeks methods, but the development of the topics throughout the text is slightly different.
With a subject-by-subject structure we take topic A and topic B, we produce our introduction and the first pargraph is in charge of focusing on topic A, once the points are made we moved on to the next paragraph that will focus only in topic B, until we get to the conlusion.
On Point-by-point, we take topic A and topic B, we produce the introduction, then the first pargraph will have topic A and B together making a point but it will focus in idea 1, after we finish that point we move on to the next paragraph and with topic A and B to make another point or more under idea 2. It might feel confusing at first but practice makes perfect, and that's how I wrote this two texts:
I can only say that after being both an unemployed and a working student, you never truly appreciate anything after it is gone. From one side, you feel like the world is your oyster because now you know how an adult lives, but also the very ankle of responsibilities that comes after the taste of independence weighs you down. When you’re in high school, and you dreamed of becoming an adult because you see yourself happy with your dream job after graduating from university, you make a plan, but sometimes life has prepared something different for you. Being an unemployed student is the most under-appreciated stage of your life, although it is definitely not easy either, through this text will expose the two sides of the coin for the both stages the one that seems like paradise for the ones that yearn independence in every aspect and the one that makes you feel like a carefree child but bounded to surrender to the authority of your parents.
When you manage to get a job while studying, you feel like all the time that you had free and full of nothing has been put to a great use, with a good twist; because now you have money that you didn’t have before at your disposal. And it is only fair for you to decide how to use it because you earn it with your hard work. However, sometimes we fail to ignore that money is also a curse, because now you’re responsible for yourself and besides your regular duties as a regular student, like attending classes, working on projects and present home works, now your workload has doubled. There’s so much that your body and mind can take and if you don’t find a good balance between everything, you break either physically or mentally. When the worst case scenario comes to play, there’s always regret.
If you reach the point where you realize that you never appreciated the fact that before having these many responsibilities you were once that kid whose only big task was clean the house or do house chores in exchange for education, food and roof over your head. You share the same school duties as someone that works and studies, but you have more time to organize and rest. During those times, your biggest worry is the next big school test or presentation. You pay no mind to the fact that you were living off someone else’s income, because you actually don’t know the cost of life. Furthermore, you don’t know what being independent feels like because you might have all the free time in the world, but you still have to play by the rules of the ones that pay the bills. And that leads to a constant feeling of a lack of freedom.
This is the time to think, that sometimes fewer responsibilities actually equals happiness, but it comes with limitations and not everything is easy, The independence that the ones that work and study at the same time did come with a price tag, and now you have to deal with the consequences. If you want to take on the challenge of being an adult that not only is responsible for good grades but also for him or herself, you’ll have to find a good balance between work and school, have ready a plan b for everything, because life won’t stop because you couldn’t crack the code of a happy ever after without rules or consequences.
There are so many perks in riding both transportation methods that sometimes we fail to see them. When it comes to owning a car you forget that it gives you freedom, you no longer have to wait for anyone to pick you up, no matter how late it gets you decide where to go at any time you want. Then we have the bus riders, for the price of $25 cents, it takes you to long distances, you don’t have to worry if the gas goes up because it doesn’t directly affect you. If the bus breaks down, you just simply ride another one, once you arrive at the university you don’t need to worry about getting a parking spot because you didn’t drive a vehicle to get there.
However, not everything is good with these transportation methods. The other side of the coin says that if you own a car you need to take care of the repairs and maintenance of such, If the price of the gas goes up it definitely affects you, If you fail to arrive early you miss a good parking spot in the university, If the car breaks down on your way to classes you miss them. Not to mention that If you ride a bus to get to the university there’s a high risk of getting mugged by another passenger, it can get very crowded, and you’re not on time to pick the bus you might arrive late to class because you’ll have to wait for the next one.
When it comes to transportation it all breaks down to money, If you have enough you can afford comfort, go on your own car to school and everywhere without forgetting that you are responsible for everything that happens to the vehicle, and on the other side we have a bus that has its own risk but If you’re a broke student that’s the only choice you have, and it's definitely the less expensive one that you’ll get.
