Movie Review

On this week's class, we learned about how to make a movie review. There's definitely some elements that should be taken under consideration at the moment of telling the world your experience about watching any movie.

At the moment of writing your review, you must remember that giving spoilers is a big no, unless you warn the reader about it beforehand. You have to also keep in mind, that you need to let the reader know whether you like the movie or not, otherwise the message that you try to convey through your review might get confusing.

Your review should be entertaining and easy to understand, since there might be people that might not be a literate as others and get lost between the ideas or thoughts that you try to share. As an exercise we had to write a movie review ourselves and I decided to write about one of my favorite animated movies of all time, The road to El Dorado.

The road to El Dorado

The big question of all time is how would you teach your children gruesome historical events without getting into details? This movie stays faithful to the history up to some point, this film has not just succeeded in explaining historical events with a hint of truth between jokes and amazing soundtracks, but also it showed the cruel reality of the Spanish inquisitions in a subtle way. It does explain what the purpose of the Spanish was by going on inquisitions to what is known now as America in hopes to find gold or any precious stone that they could get their hands on in the name of the Spanish crown. However, it doesn’t get into much detail in showing the trail of blood from the ones that dared to defy the Spanish authority or the slavery of the natives of the land that they conquered.

The story begins with the two wanted con men, Miguel and Tulio, that open the storyline by committing fraud while gambling on the streets of Spain. They got caught by the authorities and had to chase them all over the place. On their attempt to escape the authorities they jump into two barrels to hide themselves without knowing that later these barrels will be placed inside the ship that Hernán Cortes was going to use for his inquisition. After another failed attempt to escape, they get caught under the accusation of being stowaways in the ship, they get imprisoned. Later, they manage to escape their fate as stowaways in Hernán Cortez ship, and they shipwreck in the middle of the ocean.

After wandering aimlessly, they managed to get to a land, Miguel noticed that they arrived at the land that will take them to El Dorado, because he kept the map from their last gambling failure. When they finally get to the land, they start a new scam where they trick the natives into giving them their gold. However, their stay in the promised land will later change their view of life. This movie doesn’t only show the greed of humankind and how much it can hurt others, but it also shows the potential for great kindness that every person has despite their circumstances. The road to El Dorado, it has not only taken historic events from the books to a family film but like it is expected it carries a positive message.
